Meet Lindsay Schultz

Lindsay Schultz: The Heart and Soul Behind The Spine Bookshop

Smyrna’s creative scene just got a new chapter, and it’s being written by Lindsay Schultz, owner of The Spine Bookshop, the town’s only independent bookstore.

After moving to Smyrna more than five years ago and buying her first home, Lindsay quickly fell in love with the town’s small-town charm and close-knit community. That same sense of connection inspired her to open The Spine Bookshop, a cozy haven for readers, writers, and anyone who believes in the power of stories to bring people together.

Inside the shop, you’ll find more than just shelves of books. The Spine celebrates local and independently published authors, banned books, and the simple joy of discovering something new. It’s a place where conversation flows easily, creativity is encouraged, and everyone feels at home.

When she’s not recommending a great read, Lindsay enjoys reading for herself, knitting, painting, and unwinding with her favorite TV shows. She also hosts The Spine Podcast: Chronicles of a Bookshop, where she shares behind-the-scenes stories, author conversations, and the joys and challenges of running a small-town bookshop.

Lindsay’s love for Smyrna shines through in everything she does. She counts Simply Smyrna as one of her favorite local events because it’s a celebration of community creativity that brings together artists, musicians, and small businesses. “I love seeing the community gather to support one another and showcase the incredible talent that calls Smyrna home,” she says.

Her vision for the town’s creative future is bold and hopeful: “My dream is for Smyrna to grow into a true hub for art, creativity, and culture. The spark is already here – a community full of talented, passionate people – and I want to help nurture it.” Through The Spine Bookshop, Lindsay hopes to create a central gathering place where people can connect, share ideas, and celebrate the creative spirit that makes Smyrna so special.

The shop already hosts a wide range of events, including children’s story times (Tuesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.), book clubs, craft sessions, and a Veterans Coffee Hour on Friday mornings. Each event reflects Lindsay’s passion for fostering connection through books, art, and conversation.

Lindsay encourages residents to support local creativity by shopping small. “When you shop local, you’re not just purchasing a book,” she says. “You’re putting money back into the community and supporting local authors, narrators, and vendors. Every purchase helps sustain creativity and keeps our town vibrant and connected.”

As Lindsay continues to build The Spine Bookshop into a gathering place for readers and dreamers, one thing is certain: her story is helping Smyrna’s creative spirit flourish, one page at a time. “I want to be a business that the community loves, trusts, and can always count on as a hub for books, creativity, and connection.”

So, whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking for a new favorite place to unwind, stop by The Spine Bookshop and say hello to Lindsay. You might leave with a great book and a renewed appreciation for the stories that bind our community together.
